Yes, I have a newsletter that I send out once a month. (I’ve only sent one so far; the next one will go out next week.) It includes that month’s writings on my blog as well as a collection of book- and writing-related articles I’ve found elsewhere. My subscriber list is small, but over the past month I’ve had a handful of new subscribers, none of whom I know. Not sure how they found me — perhaps through one of my social media pages, or even Medium — but to see the list growing even a bit has been an ego boost, especially since I didn’t offer anything in return.

I just can’t do freebies. I think they’re great when they add value and make sense, but I find so many freelancers offer them just to offer them, and they simply regurgitate the same info that’s already available. I’d rather spend my time writing and trying to grow my list organically. Maybe it’ll bite me in the ass down the line, but that’s how I’m approaching it.
