It’s absolutely a different world now.

I don’t have much experience with publishing (other than through Medium) but I know I can’t tailor my writing to fit potential audiences. I realize that might be how it works now but any time I’ve tried to write with sales or readers in mind my work sounds forced and I have a harder time completing the piece. Maybe that means I won’t find success. We’ll see.

The one thing that’s very different now is the ability to reach a wider audience through self-publishing. In your experience has that been a helpful route to getting work out there?
