Immediately before seeing this piece on Twitter, I read the news about a still-active shooting at a combined elementary/middle/high school in Colorado. At least 7 injured, so far. Kids and teachers in lockdown. Parents undoubtedly terrified. Needless to say, your post was spot on.

My son is in first grade and it makes me sick to think that at some point between now and his senior year there could very well be a shooting. I hope things change. I hope we come to our senses. But I’m not holding my breath.

I’m glad your daughter is ok. Let’s hope that’s the last time she has to deal with such an awful situation.
