I actually don’t mind that as much. To me, those Facebook groups are different in that the entire purpose is to clap for each other’s work. If someone in one of those threads claps for something I wrote, it’s more out of obligation than out of appreciation for my work. (Which is not to say that we don’t like one another’s work, but we’re expected to clap for a certain number of posts. You know the drill.) :)

It takes a long time to get through all of the posts in those threads, so I understand why people only comment with “clapped” or nothing at all. In this post I’m referring to when someone specifically calls out another writer by name, supports or promotes their work, embeds links to their article in a post, etc., and the writer being supported doesn’t bother to say thank you. It’s happened many times to me on Medium as well as on social media platforms and it bugs the hell out of me. Hence my little rant. :)
